KARACHI: Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) is going on strike for an indefinite period from today (Thursday) against the hike in prices of petroleum products. The transporters of Karachi have appealed to observe wheel jam strike across Sindh province against the government decision to mount the prices of petroleum products. The transporters said the recent raise in POL prices is an injustice to the poor masses and this unjust raise is creating problems for the transporters as well. National Transport Ittehad also announced to back up the KTI’s call for strike. Besides, Karachi Goods Carriers Association and Sindh Goods Carriers also declared to join hands to make the strike a success. Goods Carriers’ transporters said they will not ply their vehicles including trucks and trailers to transport goods from Karachi to the upcountry. Meantime, the deadline for the reversal of oil prices given to government by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), is coming to its end at midnight today (Thursday). Sunni Tehreek (ST) also announced to observe wheel jam strike against the hike in POL prices on Friday (March 5). |
